The Department of Epidemiology is located at the National Research Institute of Mother and Child (NRIMC) in Warsaw. It is responsible for monitoring maternal and child health at the national level and studying its determinants. The Department reports infant and child mortality (1-19 years), low birthweight and prematurity rate by year, administrative areas and maternal education based on birth and death certificates from Central Statistical Office. In regards to children and adolescent quality of life from 1992 until now it is deeply involved in HBSC study. It also undertook the analysis of the data from the first Polish National Health Survey 1996 (based on WHO harmonised questionnaire) focusing on the problem of social inequality in physical and emotional health of children and adolescents.
